Update on Dhan Bahadur Bohara

We wish to share with you all the closing of the fund raiser for Dhan Bahadur who is resting comfortably along with his recovering mother and father in two rooms at a new building near us in Dhapasi. We leased these rooms which are pretty modern with indoor plumbing for his return home.

A total of 38 people donated to Nepal Orphans Home in Dhan’s behalf and in Canada, Basia Going the owner of Adi Shesha Yoga Studios brought in donations and herself added funds for a total of $7,000.00 Canadian Dollars to be used for Dhans operation and recovery. The total raised for Dhan by NOH came to $5,502.00, which means we surpassed our goal of $10,000.00 by $2,502.00. This allows us to cover all of Dhan’s medical expenses for one year and their complete living expenses for six months while Dhan and his mother regain their health and his father is able to look for work.

Dhan is taking a walk or two each day around the neighborhood and starting to feel much better; I passed him on the street the other day and he said he hopes to be able to go to school in 3 months’ time. It is highly likely that they will remain here for this year and then follow their heart and return to their village next year.

Dhan and his family are part of the NOH family now and that of Basia Going’s Adi Shesha family. Basia will be here in June for a visit and currently one of her teachers recently visited us before starting her trek to the Mount Everest Base Camp with other yoga enthusiasts.

To all the donors in Canada and our 38 NOH friends we wish you the very best always. This young man would most likely be living only in our hearts and minds now had it not been for your compassion; this is simply the way it is in Nepal. Pratap remains helping Dhan everyday to go to appointments and have tests done. One day after the operation Pratap proudly said to me, “The doctors in the hospital were overwhelmed by the generosity of people who did not know Dhan and were not even Nepalese, and instead of taking advantage of that and charging more they said we should do our part too for our Nepalese son, and where they could they discounted fees and took very special care of Dhan.” The kindness that you all have shown has planted some seeds in Nepal; this is what the beginning of social change looks like, and the world is moved a little closer to peace and harmony by Dhan’s needs and your answering the call.

Thank you very much.

Papa
